Background

Dr David Blackburn honours project examined aspects of microclimate change under permanent orchard netting. Later doctoral studies examined the genetic improvement of Eucalyptus nitens for sawn-board, veneer and paper products. David's areas of research now include forestry, wood science, economics and microclimatology. He also works with the University of Tasmania's eLogisitic group assisting them in research on supply value chains for primary industry products.

Originally trained as a Marine Engineer, David has worked and managed a range of engineering projects in navaids. He previously managed the University of Tasmania's Research Farm and more recently has conducted a number of studies in wood science resulting in publications in highly ranked journals. His broad range of knowledge and experience make a valuable contribution to the Coconut wood team.  

Role in the Cocowood Improvement project

David is a key project manager in the Cocoveneer project.
